All American.

We're feeling pretty patriotic tonight.

We braved the long lines at the polls and voted early. We talkin' three hour wait here, people! But we were patient, and excited, and relieved when we finally made it inside the library from the seemingly infinite line that sprawled outside and around the block. Patriotic duty: fulfilled. Woohoo America!

Then we figured, what the heck? might as well make a theme out of the evening. So we headed over to Doc's "All American" Burgers. Because sometimes you just have to enjoy a nice juicy cheeseburger with your "I voted!" sticker and bask in the glory of our great nation. That, plus Doc's is right across the street from our polling place so it felt like fate. And we never mistake coincidence for fate.

(Americana and a "Lost" reference all in one?! You're so welcome.)

Doc's is somewhat of a legend in South Florida and is even an official historic landmark. It's been here over 60 years and we've walked past it like 24,873 times but somehow we've never actually stopped to eat.

The verdict: the burgers were just alright. The patties were juicy but thin, and the cheese was just your standard plastic-wrapped yellow pseudo-cheese. The fries were nice and crispy but the portion was so small. The onion rings were pretty tasty. But the milkshake... oh, that strawberry milkshake! Thick and creamy with real chunks of fruit swirled in. That milkshake was a winner. Presidential, you might even say.

So, Doc's definitely doesn't have the best burger in Delray. Or the best service. Or atmosphere. Or napkins (weirdly flimsy napkins!), but that stellar milkshake definitely gets our vote (yup, squeezed in one more election reference there).
